For African Americans, a World Series that looks like them – Los Angeles Times
The World Series began with a bang tonight as the Phillies beat the Rays 3-2. The major storylines are Tampa’s rise from worst to first and the Phillies breaking through to the big show. Another equally major storyline is the resurgence of young highly talented African Americans in baseball with players like Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard, BJ Upton, and rookie phenom David Price.
Bill Shaikin of the LA times wrote a great article today about this storyline and it’s worth the read, twice over.
Enjoy!

Major League Baseball scores this October with Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities program presented by KPMG
The Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities program received a great write up today regarding players in the playoffs. It’s fantastic to see the RBI program make such a difference in the lives of america’s youth as well as on a major league team. Eight major leaguers fighting for a chance to make it to the World Series have come from the RBI program.
I’ve attached the official Press Release from Major League Baseball for everyone to view.
Thanks so much for supporting the Urban Youth Academy as well as the RBI program. With your help, players like James Loney have a chance to shine on the biggest stage there is.

Honda Family Fun Experience
On Sunday, The Urban Youth Academy was invited to participate in the Honda Family Fun Experience at California State University, Dominguez Hills. Our coaches and staff came with equipment and smiles to run different stations at the Honda Family Fun Experience. There was Station #1 – Infielding , Station #2 – Baserunning, Station #3 – Outfielding, and Station #4 – Hitting. These stations allowed experienced baseball and softball youths to learn as well as those who had never considered playing baseball a chance to enjoy the great game. We even had Darrell Miller, the Director of the Academy and Kenny “KT” Landreaux take the main stage at the experience to give a few hitting demostrations. Two young lucky fans got the chance to get up on stage and recieve personal instruction from Darrell and KT.
To all those who came to the Honda Family Fun Experience enjoy the the splendor of the national game, we here at the Urban Youth Academy want to thank everyone for coming out and participating. Baseball is a great game, but it needs these youngsters to fall in love with it like we did to continue baseball’s growth and prosperity.
