February 2016 Baseball and Softball Workout Schedules

Academy Members and Friends,

The February 2016 workout schedules for baseball and softball are now available.

Click on the links to view the February 2016 Baseball Workout Schedule or February 2016 Softball Workout Schedule.

There is now one schedule for baseball workouts and one schedule for softball workouts.

Please review them carefully as there are many changes and multiple dates with NO WORKOUTS.

Together with our scheduled baseball and softball workouts, the Academy is home field for ECC Compton Center Baseball and Softball, Bethesda University Baseball and Marymount California University Baseball. Along with other events we facilitate, our facility is host to the NC Dinos, a Korean professional team, for part of their spring training.

Always be sure to check the workout schedule and Academy Blog at before you plan on coming to the Academy to make sure there is an appropriate workout to attend.

BASEBALL Workout Changes:

The structure and content of our development and instruction will be more uniform and consistent in all age groups, to create a smoother transition and understanding of fundamentals for all members as they grow here at the Academy.

In an effort to simplify things, the baseball workout schedule is now a 2-sided single sheet with an overview on one side and a calendar view on the other.

The Little League field will now be referred to as the YOUTH BASEBALL FIELD.

Dates and times of workouts and age groups have changed.

Four different age (academic grade level) groups have been created together with a new workout schedule for participation.

  • T-Ball – Grades K, 1st & 2nd (Ages 5 to 8)
  • Youth – Grades 3rd, 4th & 5th (Ages 9 to 11)
  • Intermediate – Grades 6th, 7th & 8th (Ages 12 to 14)
  • High School – Grades 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th (Ages 14 to 18)

Please refer to the schedule for workout times for each group.

We ask that you or your child only attend workouts scheduled for their specific group. Only members selected by Academy Instructional Staff will be invited to participate in more advanced workouts. For safety reasons, your child may not be allowed to participate if they attend a workout not intended for their grade level/age group.

RSVP workouts have been discontinued.

Position specific workouts, including pitching and catching instruction, will be integrated within the schedule open workouts.

Please refer to the attached Softball Workout Schedule as there are many dates with NO WORKOUTS.

REMINDER: Always be sure to check the workout schedule and Academy Blog at before you plan on coming to the Academy. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Thank you very much!!!

What’s your favorite part about the Urban Youth Academy in Compton, CA?

“I get the opportunity to sharpen my baseball skills, receive extra help on my homework, and make new friends.”

If you could hang out with one professional baseball player for the day, who would it be and why?

“The one professional baseball player I would hang out with for a day is  Yasiel Puig of the Los Angeles Dodgers, because he is a great right fielder and I admire his aggressiveness.”

If you make it to the Big Leagues, what would your “walk-up” song be?

“Travis Scott – Antidote”
How have our tutors at the Urban Youth Academy helped you achieve your academic goals?

“When I first joined the Urban Youth Academy my grades were not good and my dad eventually suspended me from playing baseball until my grades got better.
