5-Week Umpire Instructional Program

Good Afternoon All,

 

           

Major League Baseball’s Urban Youth
Academy Umpires Association is hosting a 5
- week

Umpire Instructional Program for anyone 16 years and older. Instruction begins

Saturday, November 20th, 2010, and will continue
every Saturday until December 18th.

There will be both on field and
classroom instruction and all of the supplies will be provided.

 

Classroom
instructions include:

·        
Introductions

·        
Explanation of camp outlines

·        
Equipment needed

·        
Differences between NFHS, NCAA and MLB
rules

·        
Basic 2 man mechanics

·        
Proper positioning with and without
runners

 

Field instructions include:

·        
MLB UYA facility use

·        
Live games- MLB scout games

·        
Field work

·        
Cage work

Scorekeeping Class STARTS TOMORROW!

Good Morning all!

 

            The score-keeping class being taught by James Roberts will begin tomorrow, Saturday, October 9th, 2010 at
1:00pm
.

Here are the topics that will be covered.

 

Week 1- Introduction
to baseball score-keeping

Week 2- In-game
situations

Week 3- Preparing a
score sheet

Week 4- Game scoring

Week 5- Game scoring
/ totaling stats

Week 6- Test scoring
knowledge

 

At this time, the class is only offered to adults and children
14 and older.

 

Don’t miss out on the chance to learn how to keep score of a
baseball game, and who knows, you might be invited to be an official score
keeper at a Major
League Baseball
Urban Youth
Academy event, such as RBI Regionals, USA/Japan Series or Urban Invitational.

Scorekeeping Class Offered!!!!

Hello All,

Hope everyone is have a GREAT Saturday moring.

The Academy is offering a new class!!! It is a 6-week scorekeeping course taught by our very own, Coach James Roberts.

Course Overview:

You will learn everything from the proper way to prepare a scoresheet to totaling a game stats.

Week 1: Introduction to scorekeeping

Week 2: In-game situations

Week 3: Preparing a scoresheet

Week 4: Game Scoring

Week 5: Game Scoring

Week 6: Test scoring knowledge

So, mark your calanders for Saturday, October 9th @ 1:00 pm, there is a small catch….This class is only offered to kids 14 & older.

U.S.A. / Japan Series – COMPLETE success!

Good Afternoon Everyone

Here is a recap of the Labor Day weekend event, The U.S.A. / Japan Baseball Series.

First of all, thank you to everyone that had a hand in putting together this event. To the participants, thank you for representing the Academy with high standards and in a prefessional manner.

U.S.A. Roster-

Daniel Arellano, J.P. Crawford, Darrell Miller, Gosuke Katoh, Desmond Henry, R.J. Ybarra, Thomas Walker, Kerry Kelley, Jerry Keel, Kyle Twomey, Aki Yamamoto, Marcos Lara, Austin Wilson, Dominic Smith, Mark Silva, Ryan Garvey, Ron Miller, Ryan Keller, Robert Gsellman, Teyrey Gatewwod and Mike Martin

The U.S.A team went into the third and final showdown against Japan down 2 games. They knew it was do-or-die, as this was the last game of the series. The final score was 2-1, putting U.S.A. on top. Team U.S.A.’s record in the series was 1-2.

Here are some top performers for the U.S.A. team:

J.P. Crawford led the team in batting average, hitting .444 with 4 hits, 1 double, 1 RBI and 2 runs scored in 9 opportunities.

Gosuke Katoh hit .429 with 3 hits and 1 run scored in 7 opportunities.

Darrell Miller hit .400 with 4 hits, 2 RBIs and 1 run scored in 10 opportunities.

There were 2 homeruns hit by the U.S.A. team, one by Dominic Smith and the other by Ryan Garvey.

Academy will be closed for Maintenance Monday 08-30-2010

Hi Everyone.

The Academy will be completely closed on Monday August 30, 2010 to allow our Maintenance Staff to take care of the Facility and The Fields.

Workouts will resume on Tuesday August 31, 2010
