Today at the Academy

Dear Academy Members and Friends,

The 12 and under workout will take place at 4:00 p.m. on the Little League field. Tutoring begins at 1:00 p.m. If you are interested in a Mental Toughness session, taking place between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., please make an appointment with Coach Frost.

The College Summer League will have 2 games; one at 11:00 a.m. and the other at 2:30 p.m. Once you are finished watching those games, head over to the softball field for two more at 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Arroyo Seco Saints Advance

Dear Academy Members and Friends,

The Arroyo Seco Saints defeated the South Bay Legacy last night’s Palomino Zone finale, 3-2. It was a fast paced, well-pitched game. The Saints will advance to the Palomino World Series with their first game at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow evening. Good luck boys!

Today at the Academy

Dear Academy Members and Friends,

There will be no softball High School Summer League games today.

On a brighter note, we have three baseball games starting with the High School Summer League games at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The 2013 Palomino zone Tournament will conclude with the championship game tonight at 7:30 p.m. It should be a good game between the South Bay Legacy and the Arroyo Seco Saints.

Don’t worry, our regular scheduled workouts are still on! There is tutoring for all ages at 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., open workout for ages 13-18 at 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and pitching for beginners (ages 9 and under) at 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Come out and enjoy our festivities!

Today at the Academy

Dear Academy Members and Friends,

The Academy will be hosting the 2013 Palomino Zone Tournament this weekend. The games kick-off today at 1:30 p.m. Our Academy team will play tonight at 7:30 p.m. against the Arcadia Astros. Admission is $5 per person. Come out and support our team!

Also, we will be having our regularly scheduled workouts today. There will be tutoring from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. and the 12 and under workout will be from 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. on the Little League field. Softball workouts are from 3:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. with a sports psychology workshop from 5:45 p.m.-6:30 p.m.

Breakthrough Series

Dear Academy Members and Friends,

On Monday, July 22, we sent a team to the Houston Academy for the Breakthrough Series. Congratulations to those who were chosen to be a part. The team traveled to the Minute Maid Park and got a chance to meet a few Major League Baseball players. Check out a picture of the team below.

Academy Hats and T-Shirts

Dear Academy Members and Friends,

This is a friendly reminder that all Academy members must wear their Academy hats and t-shirts while participating at the Academy. This is mandatory.

Those who do not wear the appropriate attire will not be allowed to participate. Additional Academy hats and t-shirts can be purchased in the front office for $10 each.

Dominic Smith Featured in Orange County Register

Dear Academy Members and Friends,

We are pleased to announce that the Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy’s Dominic Smith is featured in the Orange County Register.

The article, “Baseball: Pathway Out of the ‘Hood,” is based around Los Angeles raised Dominic Smith’s successes and highlights other Major League Baseball players from the surrounding communities. The Urban Youth Academy is acknowledged as an entity that is helping to raise the number of black baseball players.

California Collegiate League All-Star Game Recap

Dear Academy Members and Friends,

We would like to thank everyone who showed up last night to support the Urban Youth Academy in hosting the California Collegiate League All-Star Game.

Last night was perfect for baseball! We had hundreds in attendance as the Southern Division took a 3-2 win under the bright lights and moonlit sky. 

We hope you enjoyed yourselves and will join us at future events!

No Workouts Tomorrow, Wednesday, July 17

Dear Academy Members and Friends,

There will be no workouts tomorrow because we will be hosting the California Collegiate League All-Star Game beginning at 7 p.m. We encourage you to join us for tomorrow’s festivities. Please see below (previous posts) for further details on the All-Star Game.
