“Let’s Move Compton Event”
On Saturday September 15, 2012, The Academy was invited to participate in the First Annual Let’s Move Compton Event
This event was launched by our First Lady Michelle Obama and has as its goal to solve the challenge of childhood obesity. This campaign is about putting children on the path to a healthy future during their earliest months and years.
We would like to thank Councilwoman Janna Zurita for the gracious invitation. We had a ton of fun and we hope to be invited again next year to this worthwhile event.
In the morning, Gerald Taylor and Edmund Aguirre helped me set up at the Park.
In the afternoon, Softball Coaches Arielle Palafox and Antwoinette Baker took over
We set up a booth and we had tons of giveaways for the kids and parents. We gave out Free memberships to the Academy to all the who came up to the booth. They were given items they could use to workout, such as shirts, baseball pants and socks to name a few.
There were a lot of questions about the Academy and the Programs
In the morning, we were greeted by councilwoman Janna Zurita and the fun started with music, dancing and free lunches consisting of nutritious food.
There were games for the kids, a lot of physical activities for the kids and free mammogram screenings for the adults.
Councilwoman Laura Richardson came by our booth and thanked us for attending.
We had a great time.
