Southwest Future All-Star Series 6-7-09
The Southwest Future All-Star Series concluded on Sunday afternoon with the consolation and championship game being played at the Urban Youth Academy. The three-day event featured some of top ballplayers throughout California, which made for some tough competition.
Those who attended were satisfied with the showcase and hope there will be more just like it in the future.
“It’s a cool experience to play with some of the best guys around especially when you get to display your talent in front of pro and college scouts,” said Jake Jelmini, a junior outfielder from Mira Costa High School. “I knew it was going to be a good showcase and it lived up to that expectation.”
Chris Joranco, a junior catcher from Riverside Poly High School believed that the Southwest Future All-Star Series was one of the best showcases he had ever been to.
“It has been good because you get a lot of exposure,” he said. “Hopefully you get a scholarship out of it but other than that it’s just a good time to come out, play, have fun and show what you got.”
Dominic Ficociello, a junior shortstop from Fullerton High School, also agreed that the showcase was a lot better than he had expected it to be.
“This has been really fun,” he said. “I expected there to be good competition and it has passed my expectations.”
