In addition to the RBI program, the Academy took part in the inaugural Playa Vista July 4 International Wood Bat Baseball Championship in 2006 and in 2007.
This was the first known international tournament of its kind in the Southern California region since the 1984 Olympics. The Tournament included teams from Canada, Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Australia, as well as six teams from throughout the Southern California region.
This marked the first time the facility could hand-pick a tournament team from its own Urban Youth Academy players.
Every fall, the Academy hosts the Southern California Scout League. Each Sunday from Labor Day through Thanksgiving, Major League Baseball area scouts compile the best Southern California draft-eligible prospects and showcase them at the Academy.
Teams that have used the Academy are: The Atlanta Braves, St Louis Cardinals, Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox, Kansas City Royals, Chicago White Sox, Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Houston Astros, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Florida Marlins, and Cleveland Indians.
