Scouting/Tryout Camps

Major League Baseball’s Scouting Bureau put the Academy’s show field to good use in February 2007 with their first high school showcase.
More than 100 scouts, including 12 Major League scouting directors and one general manager, scouted the Bureau’s best Southern California high school draft-eligible players. Two of the attending players, Joshua Vitters, and Matthew Dominguez, were taken with the 3rd and 12th overall picks respectively in the 2007 First Year Player Draft. The Scouting Bureau held another showcase immediately following the 2007 Draft to get a jump start on the 2008 prospects. The Bureau hopes to continue showcasing prospects in front of scouts representing all 30 teams annually at the Academy every February and June.

In addition to the showcase, the Scouting Bureau also holds an annual Major League Baseball open tryout camp every June at the complex. During the tryout, the Bureau, as well as scouts from Major League Clubs, get a chance to break down each player’s abilities and make a final cut for a game later in the day where they can further identify potential Major League players.
